The Rest of My Life Video
“The Rest of My Life”
What happens after you finish high school? If you have a disability, that may depend on your transition services. “The Rest of My Life” is a 38 minute video that gives us a glimpse into the lives of several people with mental and physical disabilities. They share their experiences in making that transition from the “school world” to the “real world.”
One of the stories is that of a young man with serious medical and intellectual disabilities who has completed high school. He currently lives with his family and volunteers at a local church program. Other stories are of young people still attending Jessamine County public schools who are between 18 and 21 years old, and who attend a program at Asbury College. There are also stories of young people who have paid jobs.
This video was produced by Protection and Advocacy, in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Human Development Institute (IHDI). The technical aspects of production and editing were handled by Kathy Shepherd-Jones with IHDI and Marcia Moran, Moran Video Productions. It is available on DVD or VHS with captioning.
